Step 1: Remove Crayon Wrapper

Most crayons come with a paper wrapper. If microwaved, the wrapper will ruin the entire project.

Begin by removing the paper wrapper to the best of your ability. Most of the time, the wrapper will come off smoothly.

If the wrapper gets stuck to the crayon, consider cutting that part of the crayon off.

Once you have all of the wrappers removed, cut the crayons into small pieces so that they melt in the microwave more easily.

The crayons will melt together completely, so if you have a specific color in mind, use crayons that will combine to make that color.

Or, if you’re like us, you can also just throw all of the crayon pieces together and see what happens. Surprises are fun!

Place the crayons into the microwave on a microwave-safe dish. Make sure to cover the crayons in some way to prevent a potentially messy cleanup.

Microwave-safe Tupperware is a good option. Or, place the crayons in a bowl, then put a plate on top of the bowl to cover it.

Microwave in increments of one minute until the crayons are sufficiently melted into a liquid.

Pour the crayon liquid into a molding of your choosing and wait for them to harden. Use the refrigerator to speed things up.
