Fish sticks are delicious. I think we can all agree on that.
But can you microwave them?
The answer is YES. You can microwave fish sticks. In fact, most boxes of frozen fish sticks come with microwave instructions on them.
That being said, microwaving your fish sticks isn’t always the best idea.
The major problem you run into with microwaved fish sticks is texture. Some people think microwaved fish sticks are a bit soggy.
And they’re not wrong. The microwave does tend to make certain other types of seafood a little bit soggy. However, tuna holds up well in the microwave, assuming it isn't overcooked.
Think of pizza. Microwaving frozen pizza, or reheating restaurant pizza, means the crust won’t be extra-crispy.
That’s not a big deal for some people, but if you love the crunch of your fish sticks, stay away from the microwave.
Recently, certain brands of fish sticks have started including little pouches inside of their frozen fish sticks boxes. The goal of the pouch is to make the fish sticks a tad crispier when microwaved.
The jury is still out regarding how effective these pouches are, but if you see one available with your fish sticks, give it a try.
Aside from the pouch, microwaving fish sticks is all about making a compromise.
You speed up the cooking or reheating process. In exchange, you sacrifice a little bit of crispiness.
For some people, that convenience is worth it. For others, the texture is everything.
Really, it’s up to you.
Regardless of how you decide to heat up or cook your fish sticks, we’d recommend having a scented candle nearby to help deal with the fishy odor your fish sticks are bound to unleash.
They’re delicious… but we can’t deny that they do tend to stink up the kitchen a little bit.
Totally worth it. In our opinion, at least!
